Mercy suspends affiliation talks
Mercy Hospital has decided to suspend talks regarding a possible affiliation with Essentia Health.
The Negotiating Committee of Mercy’s Board of Directors met with Essentia representatives on January 30 to discuss terms and conditions presented in November by Mercy for the proposed affiliation. While agreement on a number of terms was reached, differences on others remain. Not wishing to prolong the process without significant progress, Mercy’s Board of Directors voted to suspend affiliation talks in a meeting on February 23.
“We appreciate the commitment Essentia has demonstrated in working through this process with Mercy,” said Michelle Zwickey, Mercy Hospital, Board Chair. “While we were not able to reach an agreement that meets the needs of both organizations at this time, we will continue our strong and positive relationship with Essentia as we have in the past.
“I also commend Mercy Hospital Board of Directors for their careful diligence in examining options for Mercy’s future in the ever changing environment of health reform,” she continued. “I know they will continue their thorough and deliberate study of possible options in order to successfully position Mercy for the future.”
