Mercy Hospital has an opening for a casual 12 hour, day shift, Health Unit Coordinator in its Med/Surg Department. The Health Unit Coordinator provides organizational, receptionist, and clerical support to patient care units and the health care team. These duties include interviewing incoming patients or representatives and entering information required for admission into the computer, making special arrangements to meet patient’s needs, scheduling tests according to physician and nursing orders, monitoring and ordering supplies, and transcribing orders to patient’s electronic medical record. The HUC communicates effectively via a variety of modalities (telephone, electronic, and in person) with patients, visitors, and facility staff and plays an integral role in communication across the continuum of care. Most of the duties are performed under the supervision of the Charge Nurse.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Certificate from a Medical Secretary Program or Office Management Program; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification as a Health Unit Coordinator (CHUC) required, or obtain within six months of hire. Medical Terminology knowledge. Admitting experience helpful. Notary License preferred. Must have computer skills, Meditech experience preferred. Ability to prioritize and work independently. Must be able to work in a team setting.
Employee is expected to have acceptable sustained attendance. Courtesy and tact (professional attitude) must be used at all times with customers, including co-workers.
